Describe a good law in your country - Band 7

What Is the Law?

I think a good law in my country is the Gas Cylinder Rules of 2004 and the Explosives Act of 1884. In states and cities of India, we have heard a lot of news about hazardous cylinders exploding. Because of this many people were getting injured. If that cylinder exploding occurs accidently then the LPG customers can get insurance compensation up to 40 lakhs.

How You Came to Know about this Law?

When I was doing my postgraduate, in my last semester I was given fieldwork in a slum area. During my fieldwork, I just interacted with the vulnerable people who were living there. A girl who was 20 years old told me about the incident that occurred there. I’ve discussed this incident with my lawyer friend and she said about this law, and this helps them to claim from the gas office.

Whom does it Affect?

Most of the time we hear that the cylinder explodes near schools or a particular community. Hence, the agency should be aware of the surroundings in which they keep their cylinders. They should not fill your gas tank to the brim.

Why is the law Good?

This stringent law is good because there is no fault on the public who were affected by the explosion, only the LPG gas office should be responsible for the explosion occurrence.

What Is the Law?

The good law in my country is the Maternity Benefit Act of 1961, the law for pregnant women. This law is for women who were doing work in either public office or a private office. The Maternity Benefit Act allows women to rest for at least 6 six weeks following the day of their delivery.

How You Came to Know about this Law?

When I was working in the office, my colleague took statutory maternity leave, so I came to know about this. After that, I heard about this in many common places like government offices and also in private offices.

Whom does it Affect?

This Maternity Act significantly affects the organizations that heavily depend on the women who work in higher positions, as they can take leave for up to 6 months.

Why is the law Good?

This law was profoundly good for the new moms because they needed rest from other work. It may take at least a few days to recover from the pain. Also, the delicate newborn baby needs complete care from his/her mom. This law was a much-needed one for every woman, which our government has implied, because most of the companies were not allowing their employees to take leave for months, and they were providing much workload on their employees.
