Describe A Hotel That You Know - Band 8
Where is it?
The hotel I’d like to talk about is the Radisson in Salem, Tamil Nadu. I stayed there with my family when my father attended his college reunion. The hotel is quite spacious and well-maintained, and it has several facilities, including a swimming pool, a restaurant, a gym and comfortable rooms.

Why did you go there?
I went there because my father was attending a college reunion, which was organised at the hotel. The organisers had arranged rooms for the alumni and their families, so my family and I travelled to Salem with him and stayed there for the event. It was also a nice opportunity for us to spend some time together as a family.

What is it like?
The hotel was modern and comfortable, and our room had everything we needed, including air conditioning, Wi-Fi and room service. What I enjoyed most was the swimming pool. There were several children from the other families who had come for the reunion, so I started playing with them in the pool. We hadn't met before, but we quickly became comfortable with each other and spent quite a lot of time playing together.
I also really liked the food there. There was a good variety of dishes, and I found everything I tried really delicious. While we were having our meals, my father and his friends were busy talking about their college days, so there was a very lively atmosphere in the dining area.

And explain how you felt about it
I felt really happy about staying there because the experience was more than just spending a night in a hotel. I got to spend quality time with my family, meet other children and have fun with them in the swimming pool. At the same time, I got to see my father enjoying himself with his old college friends.
So, although I went to the Radisson mainly because of my father's reunion, I ended up having a memorable experience myself. The combination of the comfortable stay, delicious food and time spent with my family is what makes this hotel particularly memorable to me.

Describe A Hotel That You Know - Band 8
Where is it?
The hotel I’d like to talk about is the Marriott Hotel in Kochi. I stayed there during a business trip, and it was actually one of the hotels that left a good impression on me. It is in the busy streets of Kochi, so there were plenty of shops and restaurants around the hotel. But once we entered the hotel, it felt much quieter and more relaxed.
Why did you go there?
I went there with my colleagues because we had to travel to Kochi for a few days for work. We had meetings during the day, so we wanted to stay somewhere that was comfortable and convenient rather than spend time travelling back and forth.
I wasn't particularly excited about the trip at first because it was mainly work-related. But staying at the Marriott actually made the trip more enjoyable than I expected. After our meetings, we could just come back to the hotel, have something to eat and relax.
What is it like?
The hotel was quite grand, but what I remember most is how comfortable it felt. The lobby was huge, and there was a calm atmosphere even though there were quite a few people around. Our room was spacious, and the bed was so comfortable that after a long day of meetings, I would just come back and lie down for a while before doing anything else.
The food was another highlight for me. We had dinner at the hotel on most days because we were usually too tired to go looking for a restaurant outside. There was a good variety of food, and I genuinely enjoyed what we ordered.
Explain how you felt about it
I really enjoyed my stay there, mainly because it gave me a chance to switch off after a busy day. Usually, when I go on a business trip, I feel like I'm constantly thinking about work, but this time I actually had some moments where I could relax and enjoy myself.
I also liked the fact that I was there with my colleagues. We normally only talk about work, but during the evenings at the hotel, we had time to eat together, chat and even joke around a little. So, for me, the Marriott wasn't just a place where we stayed during a business trip. It became a pleasant part of the trip itself, and that's why I still remember it quite clearly.
Describe A Hotel That You Know - Band 6
Where is it?
The hotel I want to talk about is Taj Wellington Mews in Chennai. It is located in Taramani, on OMR, and it is a modern and luxurious hotel. I came to know about this place when my company organised our annual meet there. I had heard about the Taj brand before, so I was quite interested to see the hotel.
Why did you go there?
I went there with my colleagues for our company’s annual meeting. It was not only about work. We had a few sessions about our achievements, and there were also cultural programs and entertainment. There was a big event space with a stage, and all the programs were conducted there.
I actually enjoyed the day because I got to spend time with my colleagues in a different setting. Usually, we are busy with our work, but that day everyone was relaxed and enjoying themselves.
What is it like?
The hotel had a very nice ambience. The event space was large, modern and well arranged, so it was comfortable even with many people around. One thing I noticed was that the staff were very friendly. They were polite and welcoming, and they kept checking if we needed anything. They also served refreshments in between the programmes, which was helpful because the event went on for several hours.
The buffet was another thing I really enjoyed. There were many varieties of food, but honestly, the desserts were my favourite part. I have a sweet tooth, so I spent quite some time looking at the different desserts and trying a few of them. I still remember going back for my favourite one.
The hotel also has amenities like a swimming pool, gym and spa, although I didn't get much time to use them because I was mainly there for the annual meet.
Explain how you felt about it
I felt really happy and comfortable there. I liked the whole atmosphere because everyone was in a good mood. We were celebrating our achievements, watching the cultural programs, having food together and spending time away from our normal work routine.
For me, the small things made the experience memorable, especially the friendly staff and the buffet desserts. So, I remember it as the place where I had a really enjoyable day with my colleagues and celebrated our achievements together.

Describe A Hotel That You Know- IELTS Speaking Part 3 Follow-up Questions
1. What things are important when people are choosing a hotel?
I think people usually look at the location, price, cleanliness and amenities before choosing a hotel. For example, business travellers may prefer a hotel near their workplace, while families may look for facilities like a swimming pool or spacious rooms. Good reviews and friendly service can also influence their decision.
2. Why do some people not like staying in hotels?
Some people may not like hotels because they can be expensive, especially if they are travelling for several days. Others may prefer staying at home or with relatives because they feel more comfortable and have more privacy. Some people may also find hotels less personal than their own homes.
3. Do you think staying in a luxury hotel is a waste of money?
Not always. I think it depends on the purpose of the trip and a person's budget. If someone wants to relax and enjoy better amenities, spending more on a luxury hotel can be worthwhile. However, if they are going to spend most of their time outside, paying a very high price for a hotel may not be necessary.
4. Do you think hotel work is a good career for life?
Yes, I think it can be a good career for people who enjoy meeting and helping others. Hotel jobs can also give people experience in customer service, management and communication. However, the work can be demanding because employees may have to work long hours, weekends and holidays.
5. What makes a hotel stay enjoyable for guests?
I think good service makes a big difference to a hotel stay. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, tasty food and useful amenities are also important. But I feel that friendly staff can make guests feel more welcome. Even small things, like helping quickly when a guest needs something, can leave a good impression.
